We are seeking a Tunnel Engineer-in-Training to be based in our Atlanta, Georgia office. The successful candidate(s) will become part of Jacobs’ tunnel engineering team working on planning, designing, and constructing tunnels and other underground structures. This position offers the opportunity to grow personally and professionally with each project. Jacobs’ Atlanta-based tunnel group designs underground projects and supports construction. Recent projects and roles include: • Design and construction of tunnels and caverns, by TBM, drill and blast, and SEM methods. • Design of micro tunnels and EPB TBM tunnels. • Design and consulting for major grouting programs in the USA and abroad. • Engineering support for major tunnel construction projects. Duties and Responsibilities • Works under the supervision of experienced tunnel engineers. • Maintains effective communications with the engineering team and clients. • Evaluates and characterizes ground conditions and geotechnical parameters. • Performs numerical modeling for excavation design and ground behavior predictions. • Performs calculations to design excavation support linings and shoring systems. • Prepares design drawings and specifications. • Prepares technical reports and presentations to present findings and recommendations. • Reviews tunnel contractor construction submittals. • Observe and report on construction activities and ground conditions during construction.
